Darko's implementing an entirely new offense in Toronto. Good news because the previous "Do whatever you want" offense never worked much. If you don't know what the Spain Pick n Roll is then it's time to learn. Start here...
It's about 3 mins but hits the important movement decisions players need to make in the action. In the very first practice media scrum we heard Darko say that OG was challenged to shoot 3's 'above the break' at a better rate. Why is this important? Well In a regular PnR you have 2 players but in the Spain you have a third player. That extra player sets another interior, lower screen then pops out high to space out the Pick n Roll action. This is likely the spot you'll see OG work in the Spain PnR. Dennis running point, Jak as the Big and OG or Gary in the Spain action. OG's actually perfect for it because he's a big boy and when he screens someone it's a serious problem. Gary less so but a more deadly pop out shooter threat. The Spain PnR is fairly new to the NBA, arriving a few years ago but it's becoming very popular very fast. With 2 shooters in the corners it's a great way to create a lot of space for 3 defenders to cover. Space is great for offenses...deadly for defenses. Summer's over Raptor Fans!
